Over the past ten years, Ludacris has risen to become one of the most prolific rappers of all-time. But, there was a time when it seemed as if his dream would never come true. This all changed when Def Jam gave him a chance. His debut album did well, but many assumed Ludacris was a one hit wonder.

In order to solidify his image, Ludacris needed to land a big-time collaboration on his next album. Released on the heels of his debut came Word of Mouf. Nate Dogg heard of Ludacris and had become a fan. When he was approached to work with the Atlanta rapper, he quickly agreed.

The result of their collaboration was Ludacris' 2001 summer smash, "Area Codes." The song featured Nate Dogg and it helped mold Ludacris into a true rap star. Ludacris avoided the one hit wonder title, in part, due to Nate Dogg's help. Following the collaboration, Ludacris and Nate Dogg became friends.

Ludacris vowed to work with Nate Dogg on his projects when he became one of rap's biggest names. As he is preparing new music, Ludacris wanted to reunite with Nate Dogg to recreate magic. Because of what happened earlier today, this will never happen. Ludacris released a statement to the public, regarding the death of his friend. When speaking about Nate Dogg, Luda said there is a major void in hip hop that will not be filled.
