In 2005, Slim Thug emerged in the game alongside Mike Jones and Paul Wall. He quickly landed a deal with Pharrell's record label, Star Trak Entertainment. During the summer of 2005, Slim released his debut album, Already Platinum. The album boasted the minor hit, "Like a Boss."
Two years later, Slim Thug was supposed to release his second album. But, label politics led to the album being held up and pushed back multiple times. Slim Thug established his own label in 2007 and established distribution with Koch Records. He released an album, Serve & Collect, through the label.
After the album was successful, Slim Thug fought to leave the major label. In 2008, he recorded his third album, Boss of all Bosses, and established himself as an independent force. Ever since he left Interscope Records for his own independent set up, Slim Thug has been more successful and he prides himself as a businessman.
If there is any advice Slim Thug can offer to anyone trying to break into the game, he wants to tell them to remain independent. They may have to do more work, but they will see more of their money at the end of the day. Recently, Slim Thug released his third independent album with The Thug Show. He discussed the content on the album and how it is relevant to the world we live in today. Most importantly, Slim Thug wanted to remind the people that he is still here and relevant.
