Before igniting her feud with Nicki Minaj, Lil' Kim was close to signing with Roc Nation. Throughout her career, Kim has worked closely with Jay-Z. The two have become good friends over the years and Jay-Z wanted her services. Many websites reported the deal being close to done.
However, when asked about Roc Nation, Lil' Kim said she had not signed with them. She admitted she had been courted by the label, but decided not to sign with them. Around the same time, Def Jam also wanted to add Lil' Kim to their roster. With two high-profile record labels wanting her, Lil' Kim turned them both down.
In the future, Lil' Kim said she might would like to sign with either label, but she needs to focus on herself right now. Because of her relationship with Jay-Z, Lil' Kim is sure she can get him to work with her on her next album. While she is sure she can get him, she is likely not going to reach out to him for her upcoming album.
Lil' Kim said it is hard for record labels, now-a-days, to sign a female rapper and give her exactly what she needs.
