Recently, there were rumors about where Rick Ross would be going. Following the release of Teflon Don, Ross was a free agent. But, he also has a growing record label he is looking out for. Due to his popularity, everyone began making offers to the boss.
Jay-Z helped Rick Ross break into the game when he made him a part of Def Jam. Soon, DJ Khaled, a friend of Ross, also joined Def Jam and relaunched Def Jam South. Khaled has since left and created an imprint under Cash Money Records. It was his intention to have Rick Ross follow him over.
Diddy has been working with Rick Ross for a year and a half and had plans of signing him to Bad Boy. Under a new deal with Interscope Records, Diddy needs a new star. He offered to have Rick Ross sign a lucrative deal that would take care of Ross and his Maybach Music label. But, despite their close relationship, Rick Ross did not seem interested.
Cash Money Records had one of the most interesting deals on the table for Ross. The label already has such artists as Bow Wow and Lil Wayne signed. Also, Cash Money is home to the ever-successful Young Money imprint, which houses Drake and Nicki Minaj. Adding Rick Ross, one of the hottest rappers in the game, and his growing Maybach Music imprint would have made Cash Money Records one of the biggest record labels active.
For the most part, it appeared as if Rick Ross was going to enter a deal with Cash Money. There was also an offer on the table from Warner Bros. Records. With all of the other deals on the table, it seemed as if the proposal from Warner Bros. had been overlooked. However, Rick Ross has surprised everyone who was trying to sign him, including his longtime label of Def Jam, when he decided to enter a new deal with Warner Bros. Records.
