For years, Eminem and Canibus have been rivals, but in J. Cole's house growing up, they often stood, side by side. Despite their differences, no one can deny them their position in the rap game. Both men are known for their deep and complex lyrics. Growing up, J. Cole studied both.
Now, over a decade after they emerged into the game, J. Cole is here and looking poised to take over the game. For the past few years, hip hop has been taking a lot of heat. The game used to focus on lyrics. But, now, the game is centered around gimmiks and ad-libs.
However, many people have pinned the future of hip hop on the shoulders of J. Cole. In the past, he has talked about some of his influences. Like most rappers, J. Cole has credited the likes of Nas and Jay-Z. But, recently, he opened up about his all-time favorites.
His response may come as a surprise to a lot of people, as he listed Canibus as one of his favorites, along with Eminem. The reason picking Canibus is so odd is because of the fact that Bis has been a running joke ever since his LL Cool J feud. J. Cole said he used to hang raps by Eminem and Canibus up on his wall because he loved them that much. He said he has yet to meet Eminem, but he hopes Em has heard about him and likes what he hears. Cole said he still listens to music from Canibus and is looking forward to the release of his next album.
J. Cole's debut album should be coming sometime before the end of 2010 through Roc Nation.
