Two years ago, it appeared as if Ransom was going to emerge into the game after being on the underground scene for five years. In 2008, he released two critically-acclaimed independent albums and there were rumors of him signing with LaFace Records. The official first studio album from Ransom was supposed to come last year.
However, when the roster of LaFace Records was actually revealed, no where was Ransom’s name placed on the list. Later, when no album from Ransom came, it was clear that he was still on the mixtape scene. Most of his mixtapes and independent albums came under the release of Desert Storm, DJ Clue’s record label.
Despite being signed to Desert Storm, his albums are not released or promoted by Def Jam. As it currently stands, the only official artist signed to Desert Storm is Fabolous. While Desert Storm is not looking to add many artists, Swizz Beatz has big plans for Ruff Ryders. After years of having his artists spread across various labels, Swizzy is bringing them home.
Not only is he searching for one label and one label only to distribute the releases from the likes of DMX, Eve, and The L.O.X., but Swizz Beatz also wants to add new artists to the label. That is the reason that he agreed to allow Ruff Ryders to distribute Drag-On’s Hood Environment label. There has been no confirmation, but it is being said that Ransom has signed with Ruff Ryders.
