Following the promotion for 2001, Dr. Dre left the spotlight, completely. Having been a part of two high-profile crews, Dre was finally the boss and wanted things his way. Despite always being out front, Dr. Dre only wanted to be in the background.
While he has had a successful rap career, Dr. Dre's trademark has been producing. By many, he is considered the greatest hip hop producer of all-time. Dr. Dre told fans he would give them one more album before he retired to do producing only.
For eleven years, fans have been patiently waiting for Dr. Dre to return to the game. Last spring, he delivered a promotional single and the "Kush" single last fall. Despite the positive reviews of "Kush," Dr. Dre said it will not be on Detox.
However, the Eminem-assisted "I Need a Doctor" single is the first offering from Detox. After the year he had in 2010, Eminem was invited to perform at the Grammys this year. Em is going to perform a few of his hits from Recovery and he wanted to have Dr. Dre come on stage so they could perform his newest single, but nothing was confirmed. Recently, Dr. Dre agreed to perform with Eminem.
The Detroit rapper is in Los Angeles practicing his performance. Eminem has been performing non-stop since his 2009 comeback. With two years of straight perfroming, Eminem will be ready when he comes out and does his set. But, the last time Dr. Dre performed, let alone in front of a crowd this big, the year was 1999 and people were worried about Y2K.
Recently, Dr. Dre joined Eminem and the two are preparing their Grammy performances. Dr. Dre is preparing to release his long-awaited third studio album, Detox, some time in April 2011.
