obamacare in its smallest form is extreme

stimulus bill is extreme (and extrememly $$)

The extreme people he hires, etc.

Don't lose faith in his craziness just because he's postponed driving our country into the ground.

And it's a good thing he showed his birth certificate. How embarrassing would it be for us to look back, and the man who did all the damage wasn't even born here?

If you want america to be like europe. Go to europe and pretend you're in america. Don't jack up America for those of us who love it for what it was founded on.

(insert here where some smart-A responds with "slavery?" or something equally inapplicable)

I see what you did there... but unfortunately slavery IS [one] of the things this country was founded upon. The 3/5ths compromise is in the Constitution.

It's not that people want America to be more like Europe (which in some ways would be nice), it's just that we don't want America to be a third world country (like our education statistics already kind of show, as well as the batshit crazy ideas people believe and politicians they elect).

They aren't. The entire music business revenues are down 40% since 2001. Sales are down hugely. I can tell you from representing these artists that all the money is down too.

Are you spending as much on music as you did years ago?

Of course not. Most of the music sucks to be honest nowadays. I prefer the underground stuff from emusic, not big label stuff.

For example, Jay-Z's new album sucks compared to Reasonable Doubt.
The same with Nas nowadays compared to Illmatic.
    The same with Mobb Deep.
    etc. etc.

Get the picture? Artists who are hungry in the beginning put out a good album. Then they fall off the earth.

It's only the music industry that is losing quality. The only album this year that's from a major label that's any good this year is DJ Primo's production on Christina Aguilera's album and that's it period.

    Sad, isn't it?

Obviously this IS an issue; just not a very big one. Considering the low quality of the data and the nature if what is stored, it is not well suited for tracking user whereabouts with any level of confidence.
Apple does need to address this, but I don't see any malicious intent. The data serves a valuable function for the user and is not collected by Apple.

Ditto. Gruber is as much a blow hard as anyone can possibly be. He's such an arrogant, self-absorbing prick of a human being, without an un-biased bone in his body. He is the epitome of Apple fanboy.

orly? what about when he criticizes apple? what is he then?

sounds like you have something personal against him. (either that, or youre a tool for getting so worked up over somebody you dont even know)

I've made plans with some ex-colleagues to follow the event live using the text-based coverage made available.

Let me thank MacRumors : Live already!

It'll be 6 pm over here, so we'll be ready with some pizzas and cokes! ;)

Then once I get home a couple of hours later, I can watch the stream!

I can't say much about the name. I'm not the first to offer it. But nothing else comes to mind that seems to fit well.

But its like ATI simply naming one of their chips ATI Radeon with no additional naming (being something like X1800 etc.). Why not something like Mac Plus, Mac Extra, Mac Express... I could go on.

Looks like they are going for another Snow Leopard (aka disappointingly small) release.

Not sure about what everyone else wants out of the OS, but I certainly don't want ANY of the iOS style features they have announced. I can see launchpad becoming another unused feature (I'm looking at you dashboard!) that people forget about.

I guess we'll know just how committed Apple are to the Mac after this. We already know they couldn't give a damn about the hardware side of the business any more. The final stab in the back would be XCode for windows.

I really do fear that within 3-5 years Apple will have a tiny mac lineup with all focus on iOS. No more yearly OS updates, no more updates to iLife, etc. They make peanuts from it compared to the iOS income.

Do you use stacks for accessing applications? If yes, then why wouldn't you want to use launchpad? It is like the application stack but makes organising apps into folders so much easier and allows you to find apps easier. Yes you could just use spotlight to find apps quickly, but not everyone likes doing this.

Launchpad is one of the features that I am most looking forward to for easy app management and access.

Also, I use dashboard every day usually as I use to see the time on an analogue clock when I want to check the time (I find an analogue clock easier to visualise time with), currency conversion, stickies, translator, and iStat Pro.

    Merom Already Shipping
According to Daily Tech Merom is already shipping! Intel announced it during Intel's Q2'06 earnings report. Is an upgraded MBP going to make an appearance at the WWDC?

"...Otellini confirmed that quad-core isn't the only processor series moved up. The CEO confirmed Merom has been moved up and is already shipping to revenue, as was reported by HKEPC (English) several days ago. Intel's Tulsa processors for Xeon MP are also already shipping to revenue according to Otellini, but the availability of these processors has largely been overshadowed by yesterday's launch of Itanium 2 Montecito and the recent launch of Xeon DP Woodcrest.

Typically there is a two to three week lag between revenue shipments and retail availability, so expect to see many of these new "shipping to revenue" processors before the end of the month." (, if true and Apple is ready with the new body, we might see the all new Mobile Pro Core 2 Duo Mac sooner than any of us expected. That would be great. :) Only 18 days until we find out. :D

I read most of it. I haven't been carrying my birth certificate. It spent most of its time im Mom's china closet, where it still faded.

I guess you missed the part where the one that is being shown is a certified copy.

Maybe the certificate is legitimate, but I think the original short form would have been more convincing. I like Obama, but I loathe his extreme liberalism.

Maybe?? For someone who isn't a birther, you sure sound like one.

Apparently the short form wasn't convincing enough...which is why the long form has now been presented.

Hardly. Samsung would have been fine had they stuck to that original theme, rather than move into Apple's house as a squatter with a subsequent model

Apple can try and patent a grid of icons all they want. It won't fly in court. That Samsung F700 model is very telling, namely that the external candybar style device was used BEFORE the iPhone was even announced in January 2007. In fact, it almost looks as though Apple copied the external 'look and feel' of the Samsung music player.

Adds universal to the list of Companies I do not buy from..

They are already on that list!

GTH Universal! I bought my iPod, Every song on it, and will continue to do so. Stop Extorting the public, and possibly you may actually have some fans, or people that want to deal with your crappy company!

Perhaps I have overstated my case. Intel is shipping Merom chips, but laptops with Merom inside are not expected in retail channels until the end of August--perhaps because of limited supply?

I hope not. Visions of Motorola hauntingly return.

For those of my friends who are techy and into computers/technology, the XOOM is much more enjoyable.

Riiight. Because when you're "techie" and "into computers," you want a native app catalog of 30?

How many of your "friends" actually have a XOOM?

This is why having competition is good.

Can we just assume "competition is good" so people don't have to repeat it on every single thread?

If Jobs had his way we'd all be stuck with iPads whether we wanted them or not.

And if Motorola had its way, we'd all be stuck with XOOMS whether we wanted them or not, and if Samsung had its way, we'd all be stuck with Galaxy Tabs whether we wanted them or not, and if Microsoft had its way, we'd all be stuck with whatever crappy Win7 tablet is out there whether we wanted them or not. Welcome!

Your attempt to show Jobs in a bad light in this regard is absurd.

The big difference between Libya and Iraq is that in Iraq there wasn't a large insurgence controlling a decent proportion of the country before the troops went in.

    Good point.

Still, nothing fundamentally new, and definitely not Vista 2.0... ;)
Remember that Vista and Leopard are desktop OSes, not server OSes...

Anyhow, I'll wait until I see Vista 1.0 (not RC2) before I'm sure about that. ;)

Over the years I have bought a lot of computers for my business from a lot of different venders. To be honest Apple hardware support has never impressed me! I have actually had much better support from Dell than from Apple.

As far as .Mac goes it is one of the most poorly supported systems I have ever used in my life. They have a lousey limited faq sheet, common problems, email support is pitiful, and they don't take voice support. .Mac is a joke for $100.00 a year.

In general Apple's entire help system in OS X sucks. Searchs within the context of an application gives you all kinds of crap from every application on the system. Also there is no depth to the system. If your problem isn't the most elementary problem possible (99% of which you can figure out yourself) then it won't be in any of the help files.

Just out of curiosity... what kind of problems could you possibly have with .mac? I mean, I've never had any email problems, Setting it up in Mail is as simple as possible... the online interface is simple...

I dunno... hearing people complain about customer service regarding .mac seems funny to me. What types of problems have you had with it?

Granted, there are problems with the mac hardware. but till date, I've found apple tech support excellent. They have always replaced my hardware with no questions asked. In fact, they replaced my whole LCD screen on my 3 year old powerbook just because of a white spot.

I wish I had such luck. Apparently if you have a 15" powerbook, they'll replace that display with no questions asked. I have a 12" powerbook without a single scratch on it that i treat like a baby... but apparently it's my fault because i put too much pressure on it... even though i use a sleeve in a cushioned pocket of a cushioned bag. o_O

    ergh.

Why would the White House release a fake document, that would be the stupidest thing they could ever do. I will also go on record of saying I don't know what an official Hawaii certificate even looks like. That being said I know my short form birth certificate has an embossed seal on it. I have never seen my long form so I don't know what it looks like. Should there be official markings that would prove without a shadow of a doubt that this is legit.
