Among the many hits under Jay-Z's belt, one that sticks out among the rest is his 2000 hit, "Big Pimpin'." The song was produced by Timbaland during his run of hits between Vol. 2 and Vol. 3. In 2008, the song was back in headlines after the original creators of the song sued.
Jay-Z and Timbaland addressed the matter and they had aimed to settle out of court. The issue has been ongoing and the lawyers have been trying to diffuse the situation. Apparently, they have not had much luck. Despite their best efforts, it seems as if Jay-Z will be headed to court over one of his biggest hits.
In 1999, Jay-Z obtained the United States rights to sample the song, but did not have the rights to loop it. Furthermore, he did not clear these rights under Egyptian law. Aside from not clearing the copyright laws in Egypt, Jay-Z had not gained approval from the owners of the song, several children of the deceased creator.
