Mims was written off by critics as a pop rapper after the release of his debut album, Music Is My Savior. There were not too many people that were confident in his lyrical skills. However, after the release of his sophomore album, Guilt, everyone was convinced. Despite proving himself, Mims' album did not even sell 50,000 copies.
Sensing that the game is changing, Mims is considering leaving his longtime recording home of Capitol Records in exchange for an independent label. For his next album, Mims plans to bridge the gap between his first and second albums. Now that he has proved he belongs in the game, Mims wants to sell records.
Earlier this year, Mims surprised the entire rap game when he appeared alongside KRS-One and Redman on "How to Emcee 2010." The song was by Mims and he said that he is considering making it the lead single from his new album. For this new album, Mims plans to work with all of the movers and shakers of the hip hop game.
Mims feels that if he can continue to lyricism of Guilt and mix it in with some popular artists that he could possibly become the new star that hip hop is longing for.
