Seven years ago, Jay-Z decided to push Kanye West as a rap artist and he helped create a monster. Ever since his 2004 debut album, The College Dropout, Kanye West has been one of the most vocal men in hip hop. In some ways, he took the place of rival, 50 Cent.
Kanye West turned heads in 2005 when he publicly called out former president George W. Bush. After his poor response to the black neighborhoods in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, the rapper said Bush did not care about black people. Most black people felt the same way, including Jay-Z.
On his 2006 song, "Minority Report," Jay-Z sampled West telling this to the media. The media tried to make a big deal out of what he had said, but Bush's popularity was at an all-time low. The media took their revenge out on Kanye West four years later when he told Taylor Swift she did not deserve her VMA. From that point on, it has been okay for people to dislike West.
Earlier today, Kanye West was brought up during Jay-Z's interview on "The Howard Stern Show." He said the timing of his former protege is all off. However, Jay-Z said he was right about both statements. When the former president did not properly help the people, the majority of which were black, it seemed as if he did not care. When Beyonce came out with one of the most creative videos of all-time, Jay-Z said he felt she should have won too. But, he probably would have waited until after the show to say so.
Jay-Z says Kanye West is a victim of honest emotion because his heart is always in the right place. He sought to defend his people in 2005 and he sought to defend his friend in 2009.
