In 1993, Queen Latifah raised awareness and gave females a true voice against men. For years, women have been disrespected by men and their bodies have been taken advantage of. Being the kind of woman that she is, Queen Latifah gave females of all races an anthem.
The song, "U.N.I.T.Y.," released off her Black Reign album, would go on to win a Grammy. Due to the message in the song, it was played unedited. It is probably one of the only songs to be played on mainstream radio with "bitch" and "hoe" played out loud.
Over the years, Queen Latifah went from being a rapper to being a television star and eventually a Covergirl. Through her deal with the cosmetics line, Queen Latifah will be remaking her 1993 hit single. The remix for the song will be a 10-part remix, featuring multiple female rappers. Covergirl will make the series into a weekly event.
The new "U.N.I.T.Y." series will be featuring new female rappers and old female rappers. Among the people slated to appear in the new series will be MC Lyte and The Lady of Rage.
